Need a hand?

Notation is built by one person who reads every email. The fastest way to a real reply is to write to hello@notationchesscoach.app.

Reporting a bug?

A great bug report includes:

  • Your device (iPhone 15, iPad Pro M4, etc.) and iOS/iPadOS version
  • What you were doing when it happened
  • What you expected to happen, and what actually happened
  • A screenshot or screen recording if you can

Common questions

Notation isn't connecting to my Chessnut board +

Make sure Bluetooth is enabled and the board is powered on. In the app, go to Settings → Board → Pair, and select your board from the list. If pairing fails, try toggling Bluetooth off and on, then restart the app. Some Chessnut boards need a firmware update from the official Chessnut app first.

Nadia isn't speaking +

Check that voice commentary is enabled in Settings → Coaching → Voice. Also check your device isn't muted and the silent switch is off. If Nadia is enabled but silent, try switching the voice in Settings — occasionally an iOS voice download is required the first time.

My games aren't syncing between iPhone and iPad +

Notation uses iCloud to sync. Make sure both devices are signed in to the same iCloud account, and that iCloud is enabled for Notation in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Notation.

How do I import games from Lichess or Chess.com? +

Go to the Profile tab → Linked Accounts → Connect Lichess or Connect Chess.com. After connecting, your games will import automatically and Nadia will analyse them in the background.

I want to delete a game / reset Shadow / start over +

Individual games can be deleted from the History tab — swipe left on any game. To reset Shadow, go to Settings → Shadow → Reset. To wipe all data, delete and reinstall the app.

Found a bug, have a feature request, want to say hello +

Email hello@notationchesscoach.app. Notation is built by one person and every email is read personally. Bug reports with screenshots and a description of what you were doing are especially helpful.
